Borehole Construction in Angole Village: Delivering Clean Water and Empowering Education

E-Plus General Engineering Services Ltd completed the borehole construction in Angole Village, Kyere Sub County, Serere District. The project involved hydrogeological surveys and drilling at an altitude of 1,072 meters, along with an aquifer test and water sampling for quality and safety analysis.

The project features include a 1,200 mm reinforced concrete apron, an 8-meter self-cleansing drainage channel, and a 27-meter stainless steel intake constructed on a durable concrete pedestal. To combat soil erosion, a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) short casting pipe was installed at the outlet.

The borehole has a discharge rate of 1,300 liters per hour, with the capacity to deliver up to 13,000 liters over 10 hours. Following the completion of all construction works and community fencing, the facility, located approximately 500 meters from the school, is now in active use by both learners and surrounding community members.

This water source is projected to serve over 2,000 beneficiaries, significantly easing the burden previously placed on pupils who had to walk up to 2 kilometers in search of water. By eliminating long commutes for water collection, students can now dedicate more time and focus to their studies.

Importantly, this new source also supports hygiene and menstrual health for girls at the school. It provides reliable access to clean water, enabling them to maintain personal hygiene and use the school washroom facilities with dignity during their menstrual periods, ultimately fostering greater class participation and reducing absenteeism.
