Washroom Construction at Angole Primary School: A Milestone in Supporting Girls’ Education

At Angole Primary School in Kyere Sub-County, Serere District, Eastern Uganda, the construction of a new washroom facility marks a significant step toward improving school hygiene and promoting inclusive learning.

The contractor successfully mobilized materials and personnel, cleared the site, and executed the foundation excavation with precision.

In the second phase, the substructure was completed in strict adherence to the approved design drawings and technical specifications.

The superstructure, which includes all above-ground components, was constructed with equal attention to quality and detail. During the final phase, the contractor efficiently executed the roofing, installed a comprehensive rainwater harvesting system, built an incinerator, and completed all finishes to ensure the facility’s readiness for use.

This new washroom was thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of over 60% of the girls at the school during their menstrual cycles.

Featuring private stalls, proper sanitation, and access to essential supplies, the facility aims to significantly enhance comfort, dignity, and hygiene for female students.

The broader goal of this initiative is to improve student retention and reduce absenteeism by providing a supportive environment that allows girls to remain in school consistently, even during menstruation.

By addressing this essential aspect of their health and well-being, the project contributes to a more inclusive, empowering, and academically conducive atmosphere for all learners.
